Priyanka Chopra to do first item number
New Delhi, Feb. 20 -- Though she has been in the industry for almost a decade, actor Priyanka Chopra will be seen doing an item song for the first time in her career. She now joins other Bollywood A-listers like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Katrina Kaif, who have in the recent past, jived to item numbers.
The 30-year old actor will be seen showing off her dancing prowess in the song titled Babli Badmaash Hai for filmmaker Sanjay Gupta's upcoming gangster flick Shootout at Wadala.
Confirming the news of Priyanka doing an item number in his film, Gupta says, "I chased Priyanka for six months before she agreed to do this song. It will be shot in the next 3-4 days in Mumbai." The song which is being composed by Anu Malik, apparently has a 70s club vibe to it, and it's Gupta's ode to two of his favourite people from yesteryears. "Feroz Khan and RD Burman are two people I wanted to work with in my career and this song is an ode to them. Probably if they worked together the result would've been this song," he says.
Ask him why he chose Priyanka for the song, and pat came the reply, "If there was someone who I thought could recreate the magic of Zeenat Aman or Parveen Babi, then it could only have been Priyanka." However, convincing Priyanka to do an item song, was not easy. "It has taken a lot of time for her to agree to it. I even showed her some parts of the film. She has agreed to do the song with the caveat that the lyrics won't be objectionable or have double meaning. I told her that she doesn't need to worry about that," shares Gupta. The film's producer Ekta Kapoor says, "Priyanka is going to rock the song."
